21 Week Update

How far along? 21 weeks and I am feeling larger by the day.
Total weight gain: 12.5 (same as last week because I don't have a scale in Dublin but I am sure this has gone up)
Maternity clothes? Yes on the bottom, mostly regular tops.
Stretch marks? Nope, still using my Mama Bee oil.
Sleep: I miss my king sized Tempurpedic.
Best moment of the week: Being in Dublin and escaping the 105 degree heat. Feeling her move a lot more! Making it to the top of Blarney Castle!
Miss anything: Beer- I miss you a lot this week. What a challenge in Dublin. Sigh.
Movement: She has been moving up a storm the last few days. I mostly feel her in the evenings and really can't wait to get back to Vegas because I think Marco will be able to feel her by then.
Food cravings: None this week but I have eaten a lot of gelato
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope
Gender: Girl!
Symptoms: I have been doing a TON of walking here. I am super tired by the end of the day. I have some round ligament pain mostly on the right side. It kind of feels like a cramp sometimes. My back has been hurting more too but I attribute that to the bed in the dorms. :)
Belly button in or out: In.
Wedding rings on or off: On
Labor Signs: No, thank God.
Happy or moody most of the time: Happy!
Looking forward to: Marco feeling baby girl kick. Getting the nursery renovations under way when I get back. NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO: the plane ride home.

Doesn't everyone climb to the top of a castle to kiss the Blarney Stone when they're nearly six months pregnant?!

Dublin: The First Day of Class

Most made it to breakfast but all made it to class. :) Some were more disheveled than others but they all participated and were engaged in the lectures. Here are some pics from the first day:

20 Weeks! Halfway There & Anatomy Scan

We had our anatomy scan this week and I was so excited to see her on the screen again. What a difference 5 weeks makes! She looked so big and was such a good girl. She cooperated and the ultrasound tech was able to get all her measurements in one shot. It's amazing the detail you can see. We saw all four chambers of her heart and could even see the valves opening and closing. We saw all her internal organs and all her bones. My favorite pic is the one where she is telling us she's #1 (or wait one minute, or giving us the "loser" L, or shaking her finger at us, etc). I can't wait to meet her!!!! Oh, and yes, she is still a SHE!

It's amazing how you can see all the bones! She is #1!
She is sticking her tongue out in this pic!
Still a girl :)
Profile shot. Deep in thought.

How far along? 20 weeks. I can't believe I'm already at the halfway point!
Total weight gain: About 12.5 lbs
Maternity clothes? I had to go buy maternity jeans for Dublin and got a few maternity sweaters on clearance, too. I'm still loving Marshalls and Ross for regular tops!
Stretch marks? Nope, still using my Mama Bee oil.
Sleep: I was a little restless this week and couldn't get comfortable but still mostly good.
Best moment of the week: Seeing Baby Girl at the anatomy scan! I love seeing how big she's getting.
Miss anything: I'm headed to Dublin and can't drink...what do you think?! LOL!
Movement: More kicks! I felt her on the outside a few times when I had my hand lightly on my tummy but it's so sporadic that Marco hasn't felt her yet. I'm sure when I get home from Dublin he'll be able to.
Food cravings: None this week
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope
Gender: Girl!
Symptoms: I got cramps in my feet once this week after walking a lot...made me a little nervous for Dublin. Tired. I'm learning to adjust what I think I can do vs what I can actually do. A little lower back pain.
Belly button in or out: In.
Wedding rings on or off: On
Labor Signs: No, thank God.
Happy or moody most of the time: Happy!
Looking forward to: I'm headed to Dublin, Ireland for work and will be there for 10 days. Las Vegas is 105 degrees, Dublin is a high of 60 (on a good day) and windy and rainy. It'll be hard to come back to the heat! (or not, we'll see!)

Dublin: Hangout Sunday and Trinity College

Sunday was a quiet day but a busy day. It started with breakfast, followed by a trip to the Accommodations Office because I have a leaky shower, or sink or toilet. Not sure which one but there is water on the bathroom floor and that is never a good thing. We put in a work request (ah, sometimes I really do miss housing).

Afterwards, Michelle and I headed out to find a bookstore. I finished Fifty Shades of Grey and obviously needed to go out immediately and get Fifty Shades Darker (duh). This should have been easier than it was. We ended up in a mall and eventually found one but laughed at ourselves on the way back because we passed like three bookstores but we apparently are blind. I think the distraction comes from all of the street performers. There is so much to see on the streets of downtown Dublin that it makes it hard to concentrate on what you are actually looking for. Here are some of the gems we encountered:

This was really cool. He sculpts these out of sand
Magician
I did not donate to his cause as I am still paying off my own student loans...
Where is your pot o gold??
This little guy was amazing! He was so talented.

I had two more students arriving on Sunday and I like to have everyone in one place (and not stuck on their layovers, etc) and know that everyone is where they need to be. I was very happy when they were all here in one piece. Once they got settled we headed out for some lunch and exploring. We went to this gourmet burger place and it was pretty good. The burger came with lettuce, tomato, red relish and mayo. I found it interesting that they do not ask how you would like it cooked. It just comes well done. Also, it you want cheese they do not ask what kind, you just get some kind of cheese...

After lunch we walked around and the students picked up some groceries and necessities. It is really nice to have a kitchen and it will save them some money while they are here. Here are some shots of Dublin and the first of many group shots. The students are standing in front of what the locals call "the stilletto in the ghetto" but I have no idea what it is really called.

Marco will be excited about this pic. He used to get these all the time in Italy. :)
Students!!!!! <3

This pub was called "Buskers". This one is for you, Jared Busker!

We are staying at Trinity College and it is really magnificent. I think it looks prettier in the sunlight but it took like three days to get sun so I didn't realize this right away. Here are some shots of the quad and surrounding buildings:

I went to dinner Sunday night at a pub with Jim, Karen and the faculty. Bret Simmons is from UNR and is teaching Organizational Behavior. Elliot Parker is the chair of the Economics department at UNR and is teaching Comparative Economic Systems. Bob Aalberts is from UNLV and is teaching International Business Law. Bob's wife, Barbara is here for whole month as well.  Both Dean's will be here this week as well. And finally, here are a few things I just thought were pretty darn cool :)

The Guinness has a shamrock

This picture was taken at 9:30PM
And this was taken at 10PM!!
Tomorrow is the first day of class. Breakfast is at 7:30am and class starts at 8:15am. I will be at both. I go to the classes for the first few days so see what the experience will be like for the students and what they will be learning about. I laugh when people say I'm on vacation...anyone who knows me knows that those times are not associated with anything I consider to be a vacation. :) I am sure there will some hungover students in the morning. They're finally getting comfortable here.

I'm in Dublin! Friday 6/15 and Saturday 6/16

My flight left Las Vegas at 9am on Thursday morning. We left the house around 6am to get me there two hours early. I didn't have a reserved seat on that flight because British Airways and American Airlines don't talk to each other so I was a little nervous about that. It ended up fine and I got an aisle seat. It was a 3.5 hour flight to Chicago. It wasn't bad at all and was over pretty quickly. I had a 4 hour layover in Chicago.

During my layover I got some lunch at a Wolfgang Puck restaurant. As I am eating my beet salad I decide to crack open Fifty Shades of Grey. That was the fastest four hour layover of my life. lol! I kept thinking, OMG, I should probably hide the cover of this book so people don't know what I'm reading (now that I know what it's about). My flight from Chicago to Dublin was 7.5 hours. It was pretty rough. I was really uncomfortable and slept maybe a total of an hour. That was not good because I landed at 8am local time and needed to stay up the whole day to avoid the jet lag and get on local time asap.  Being 5 months pregnant made it harder to get comfortable and I had to pee a lot. I should have tried for the business class upgrade. It was not very fun. I'm kind of not looking forward to the 10.5 hour flight home.

Once I landed it only took about 30 minutes to get through customs then I took a bus to Trinity College. I was surprised how cold, gray and wet it is here. It's pretty constant. The bus drops you off right in front of Trinity College but somehow I turned the wrong way and there I am, all preggy, dragging two suitcases around the outside of the campus in the rain just trying to get inside. I had to stop and catch my breath like three times. I finally got inside to the Accommodation Office and got my apartment. It's pretty nice and the bathrooms are bigger than the ones in London. The bedroom is smaller but it's fine for what I need. It is a two bedroom apartment with a kitchen. It's nice to have a little fridge in there.

Jim and his wife, Karen did a great job of keeping me up all day. We spent about 4 hours walking around Dublin exploring the city. We stopped for lunch at this modern bistro and the food was good. I had an olive and artisan bread plate to start, then some mushroom risotto. It was yummy! I took an hour nap then joined Jim and Karen for dinner. We went to this little Italian place right by the College. Everyone there spoke Italian. The food was really good. After dinner we went back to the dorm and I checked my email and crashed. I made it until 9pm and literally could not keep my eyes open anymore.

My risotto
Cute market we found. Everything smelled so good!
On Saturday morning, I met Jim and Karen at 8am for my first breakfast on campus. Carina was here as well and joined us. Carina is an MBA student at UNR and was on the London trip last year, too. I am really happy she came again. The dining area is nice and the food was good. They serve cereals, eggs, bacon (but it looks like ham), sausage, scones, croissants, oatmeal (but they call it "healthy porridge") juices, coffee, etc. There is baked beans at pretty much every meal, same as London.

After breakfast Carina and I spent a few hours walking around and found two malls. We walked through and did a lot of window shopping. The professors and most of the students will be arriving today. We ran into Alex, Micki and Michelle (3 of my students) just before lunch and Brett Simmons, one of the UNR professors. While my students settled in, Jim, Carina, Brett and I went to The Porterhouse, a pub across the street. This place is so cool! I think it may end up being our hang out spot. They are a microbrewery and the others enjoyed a beer. I miss beer. A lot. It looked like they had good fish and chips....

After The Porterhouse we met up with Karen at KC Peaches and had lunch. It is a little salad and sandwich place. I had a salad and some tomato soup. It was really good. By that time, I felt like I hit a wall and decided to go back to the dorm to take a nap. I slept for about an hour and a half and got up in time to meet Jim and Karen for mass. I really like to see the differences in each country. There were some weird little differences like when the priest came out before the mass started and went up to the altar and sang a song with everyone. Also, communion was like a free-for-all. There was no order. People were getting up to stand in line before the priest came down to the front. There were weird lines coming from different areas cutting in front of the main line. Overall though, it was a nice experience. The church was very pretty. There was a eucharistic convention in town so there were priests and nuns from all over the world there.

After church we met everyone for dinner at 7:30. We went to one of my favorite places from when we were in London, Wagamama! There are two locations in Dublin and we wasted no time finding one. I had the Gyoza (pot stickers) and the Yasai Yaki Soba for an entree. So good!
Gyoza (on the right). Steven's chicken wings are on the left. They were good, too.
Yasai Yaki Soba
Group shot. Some were back at the dorm sleeping and the rest will arrive tomorrow
On the way back from Wagamama, there was a street musician playing. Alex stopped me and said, "OMG, is he playing THE song?!" Holy crap he is! When we were in London last year we heard this particular song literally everywhere we went. It was like it was following us around. Even after I left, my students would see someone playing it, take video and send it to me. It's "Hallelujah" (think Shreck). We laughed so hard and I told him to make sure to let our Londoners know! We stopped for gelato on the way back. It was good, but it was no Scoops. :)

Once I got back to the dorm, I Skyped with Marco and gave him a tour of the apartment. He got Bella in his lap and I was talking to her. She kept trying to jump out of his arms and run to the door. She just kept looking over his shoulder at the gate, trying to find me. She didn't get that I was on the screen and she could see me. She just kept hearing my voice and was trying to find me. It was really cute.

That's all for now from Dublin!
