Gianna's First Month

Oh, baby! She's here. Our first week home was a doozy. I was in a lot of pain (for the entire month) and needed a lot of help from Marco. I felt sick as we were leaving he hospital. It was probably from taking the pain meds without eating enough. We asked our mom's to come over and help us that night. They were there waiting for us when we got home and had dinner ready. It was really nice. We set up camp in the downstairs bedroom so I wouldn't have to climb the stairs and brought Gianna's bassinet down there. It started off as a good plan until I realized the bed was too soft and I couldn't get up out of it. Holy pain! Instead, we moved our camp into the living room, where we would stay for about a week. Marco (he's such a trooper) slept on the couch with me and Gianna slept in her basinet in the middle of the room. :)

I was able to sleep sitting up pretty comfortably but getting up and down was really hard. I was basically imobile which was terribly frusrating. You expect to be in some pain after giving birth but I didn't expect it to be so intense and last for so long. You think you're going to come home and take care of your baby only to realize you can't get to her when she's a foot away. It took the entire first month to get my pain under control and get to a place where it was more manageable. Here is a pic of our life that first week and a half home:
Our disaster area. G is wrapped up in the blanket with daddy.
We have one strong girl! She was trying to hold her head up in the hospital and that didn't stop when we got home. She is very alert when she's awake and likes to look at mommy and daddy, especially when she wakes up first thing in the morning (around 6am). She eats at midnight, 3am and 6am.

The day after we got home we took Gianna for her first pediatrician appointment with Dr. Blank at Desert Valley Pediatrics. She was four days old. Mommy and daddy were very tired. Daddy kept falling asleep in the exam room as we waited for the doctor to come in.

According to the hospital, Gianna was 9lb, 5oz at birth and 22" long. I mentioned in a previous post that there may have been some discrepency with this. Her weight was correct. The scale was digital. Her length, however, was totally wrong! They must have been going too fast when they measured because babies don't shrink (shocker)! She was 2 1/4" shorter than they measured.

11/9/12 (4 days old)
Height: 19 3/4" (50-75%)
Weight: 8lb 4oz (75%)
Head: 35cm (50%)

Gianna lost a little more than a pound and had a slight fever. The doctor was not too concerned about her weight because she was still in the 75th percentile even after losing so much. He thinks her weight was probably inflated at birth because of all the excess fluid. She retained a lot of it which is why she was so puffy and bloated when she came out. The difference a day or two later was staggering. We also learned we needed to supplement with formula until my milk supply came in. We did that for a few days but continued to breastfeed as well. He wanted to see her again in one week to make sure she was gaining weight. Overall she did great at her first doctor appointment!

As I mentioned, I am nursing. What an incredibly rewarding experience. We attended a breast feeding basics class before she was born and took advantage of the lactation consultant that was available in the hospital. I was really surprised that it did not hurt and luckilly we have a good latcher. I plan to nurse her exclusively (no bottles) for the first six weeks then start pumping so daddy can giver her a bottle a day. My goal is to keep her on only breastmilk for the first six months, then introduce solids, and keep her on breastmilk for one year. There are lots of questions when you are breastfeeding. You can't see how much she's eating and you have to count how many wet and dirty diapers she produces instead. It is exhausting, but totally worth it!

She loves the bath and even though we started off with only a sponge bath she enjoyed it. She loves her tub, too!

My first sponge bath (getting ready for my big photo shoot!)

My first real bath in my tub!

Here is some video of her first bath!

At exactly one week old, Gianna had her first photo shoot! Carrie Terrones came to the house to take Gianna's newborn  pictures. She was such a good girl! She slept through most of the shoot. There were one or two "accidents" when she was a nakey baby but luckily they were not dirty accidents. LOL! The "studio" was set up in our front room where there was lots of light. Afterwards, Carrie took some great shots in Gianna's room. Here are some of our favorites! She's a star!

We are learning more about her every day and love getting to know her personality! Gianna is 8 days old in this video. She has some funny expressions. :)

We went back to the pediatrician at 11 days old for a weight check and Gianna now weighed 8lb 13oz! She gained 9oz which was great and meant she was getting enough to eat (yay, mom!!). Her umbilical cord fell off at 13 days old. Most of our days center around sleeping, eating, diapers...and repeat. One of my favorite things is when she falls asleep on my chest. When she wakes up in the morning she eats then falls asleep on my chest for another three hours and we nap together. It's the best part of my day. :)

My pain level was still out of control. I couldn't stand up straight, sit up without help, and the afterbirth contractions were intense. Apparently they are worse if you are breastfeeding. They seriously felt like they did when I got to the hospital at 4cm dilated. These lasted intensley for the first two weeks then slowly got better in weeks three and four. I went for an OB visit in week three and my doc said I was not managing my pain well. I was on Percocet and Motrin but wasn't taking them as regularly as I should. I got a new perscription and took them as I should and by the end of the first month my pain was under control. Marco was home with me for the first two weeks which was such a tremendous help! He was Super Dad and jumped in right away. He's such a good daddy and Gianna is so lucky to have him as her's.

Gianna's first Thanksgiving came when she was 2 weeks and 3 days old. We had dinner at my mom's house wth my brother and my cousins Terri, Steve, Jessica (and her boyfriend, David), and Tony. It was great! Gianna wore her cute outfit from Auntie Jillian in New York. She looked adorable! We almost made it through dinner when G spit up all over it. LOL! It was on to outfit number 2 for dessert at the Matsuura's house with Marco's parents. Everyone was excited to meet Gianna. Mommy and daddy were nervous because there were so many people but Gianna did great and we made it through.

The week after Thanksgiving, Nonna came over and we baked some Christmas cookies. Nonna made Gianna her own chef hat and matching apron. She's too little to help, or eat the cookies, but I bet she loved the way the house smelled!

Gianna had her one month doctor visit and did great! She's gaining weight and the doctor was happy with her progress. We really like our pediatrician, Dr. Blank. He really takes his time with us and answers my pages of questions. :) Here are her stats:

12/5/12 (1 month old)
Height: 20 3/4" (50%)
Weight: 9lb 10oz (75%)
Head: 37cm (50%)

Gianna is amazing and I am in complete awe of her. I never knew I could love someone so much and so unconditionally. She is my peace and I feel like I finally know what I am meant to do/be and it's her mom. It's completely overwhelming and I am so blessed.

Labor and Delivery: Gianna Is Here (11/5/2012)

On Sunday, 11/4 my contractions started coming consistently around 8pm. After an hour or so I realized they were more painful than the ones from Friday night. I decided to take a shower and get myself togeether before we headed to the hospital. My plan was to labor at home as long as I could anyway so I figured this would be a good distraction.

We arrived at hosp about 1am on 11/5. Marco had insisted that we leave the house and I am so glad we left when we did. By the time we were on the 95 getting onto Summerlin Parkway I was telling him to drive faster.  We headed up to Labor and Delivery and I got hooked up for one hour of monitoring. I was 3cm dilated when we got there and an hour later I progressed to 4cm so we were admitted around 2:30am. We called the family and they headed down!

It took a little while to get me moved to a labor room so I didn't get my epidural until about 4:15am. My goodness that is the best invention ever! I had enough at that point and was happy for some relief. By this point everyone had arrived and they were in the waiting room while I got my epidural. They also started Pitocin at this time. My mon and brother, Marco's parents and sister were all so excited it was finally happening!

Everyone was tired and hungry so we insisted they go to breakfast around 6:30am. Nothing was imminent at that moment. By 7am I was 5cm dilated and 90% effaced. My water had not broken on its own and the baby was still too high for then to break my water. The fear of cord prolapse was still high because of my fluid issues so we were waiting for her to drop more first. At 8am I was put on oxygen to wake her up a bit. Everyone came back from breakfast and started the long wait for baby G.

At 8:50am I had progressed to 6-7cm, 100% effaced and the nurse checked Gianna's position to see if she could break my water. I started having an issue with the epidural. I started to regain feeling on the left side near my pelvis. It wasn't bad a first but within a half hour it was more substantial.

At 9:10am they finally broke my water. The good news was there were no cord issues, but there was meconium in the fluid. :( It also brought me back to 5-6cm and 90%effaced. Ok- let me tell you about the amount of fluid that I had in my belly. That towel in my car and those pads I was sitting on at Billy's house would not have made a dent in absorbing this fluid. It was insane- like a geyser. It just kept coming and coming- I think we went through all the towels in L&D! At one point the nurse grabbed all the towels off the baby warmer because we went through all the others. This didn't just happen once when the nurse broke my water. Over the next few hours it happened three more times and every time there was more fluid than the last. I would just lay there and be like, "I'm gushing!" It was insane. All I could think of was that I was so glad this didn't happen on campus!!!

The other crazy part- aside from the sheer amount of fluid, was how my belly shrank afterwards! I could't believe how small it looked. We had been so worried that G was going to be a big baby but my belly looked so small now that I was convinced she was going to actually be a little peanut. I looked like I did when I was 6-7 months pregnant.

The nurse gave me a manual epidural button but that thing didn't do a thing. At this point I can feel the contractions on left side. WTF?! At 9:15am the anesthesiologist came back and fixed it. He pushed lots of epidural lovliness but withing 40 minutes it made me feel sick. For the next three hours it was all about me trying to not pass out.  At 9:50 am I was so light headed, it was like epidural overload. I was put back on the oxygen, I was super pale, and my BP wa low at 95/54. I couldn't really move anything from my chest down. I couldn't move my own legs or feet- it was so weird- kind of scary. From 10:15am-12:45pm I tried to rest. There was fluid everywhere. They kept changing out the towels multiple times but it keepts on coming. I also started having a lot of pressure in my pelvis. My BP was still low- the same and I was still on oxygen.

By 1:00pm I had been up for 29 hours straight, was in labor for 17 hrs and was 8cm dilated. Everyone went to get some lunch.

Then at 1:30pm all hell broke loose when the epidural wore off completely. The anesthesiologist was in a c-section and he was the only one available. I was dying. It was the most awful pain I had ever felt in my life. They say the "transition" period (going fro 7-10cm) is the worst part and I can tell you it is excrutiating without any meds. At one point I lost it and sent Marco on the hunt for another anesthesiologist. The worst part was that my contractions were clustering. So it wasn't like I would have one then wait for the next. I would have three or four back to back then a break. I have no idea how people do this with no pain meds. It was by far the worst part of this whole ordeal. I was so upset! You don't get an epidural for it to go away. At 2:15 the anesthesiologist was done with the c-section and fixed my epidural. He had to replace the bag because it was totally empty. I was glad everyone was at lunch when this happened because it was not pretty.

Around 3:30pm I insisted that Marco leave and go get something to eat. I was doing ok, the epidural was working and it was back to the waiting game. At 4:00 I was still 8cm and the epidural stopped working again. Everyone was in the room with me this time except Marco and his mom. Marco came back to a very unhappy Me and the anesthesiologist came in much quicker this time to fix it. I couldn't believe it happened twice! I felt bad that everyone was there but I made it through and was happy there wasn't a c-section happening this time.

I finally saw a doctor for the first time at 5:00pm. She walked in and took one look at my belly and said "that's a big baby you've got there- probably a 9 pounder".  I was shocked! No, now it's a small baby- look how little my belly is compared to what is was when I got here!!  The doctor checked me and I was still at 8cm and had been that way since 1pm. She wanted to monitor me for 2 more hours to see if I progressed past 8cm but had some concerns.  Because she felt G was on the larger side she was worried that if I delivered vaginally the shoulders may get stuck. We would talk about a c-section if I didn't progress. By this time, Nannina and Jamie had to leave to get back to LA. I felt so bad that they had stayed and waited all this time and she wan't here yet.  *Looking back, I have no idea why they made me wait two more hours if they didn't think a vaginal delivery was possible anyway.

The doctor came back at 7:00pm and I had not progressed. We talked about it and agreed that the safest thing for both of us was to go ahead with a c-section. I got kind of upset at that point. I had been in labor for 23 hours, up for 35 hours and was just physically and emotionally exhausted.  I hadn't planned on a c-section and hadn't prepared myself for one. Ann, the nurse who taught our childbirth class, had been checking on my all day long and it was such a blessing to have her there. She asked me if I wanted her to come in the operating room with me. I said YES! It was really nice to have her there as someone who knew exactly what wa happening and could be there to walk me through it. They started prepping me and I got epidural number four of the day.

When they took me into the operating room it was surreal. Marco couldn't come in at first until I was set up on the table. It felt like I was in another world. I was nervous. Ann was super sweet and took pictures for us which was really cool because she was able to go wherever she wanted. She even took video for us. The c-section was really fast. The drape kept falling in my face making me feel claustrophobic. The new anesthesiologist was cool and kept fixing it for me. Everyone was pretty chill and were chatting with each other. It was so laid back that at one point I asked if they were going to check me to make sure I didn't feel anything before they started. I was surprised when they told me they already did that. Oh, ok. Guess I'm good to go then.

I will never forget the sound of hearing her cry for the first time. It was loud! This girl has some lungs on her. :) It was the best sound I have ever heard. I just started tearing up and still can't believe she's mine. They brought her over to be cleaned up and Marco went over to her. Gianna Lucia Angioni was born at 8:07pm, 9lb 5oz and 22" long (kind of- more on that later).

Hi Daddy!
Meeting Mommy for the first time. She stopped crying when she heard my voice, which was pretty much the coolest thing ever.
When we got back to the recovery room I was completely exhauseted and out of it. It was the longest day of my life! Marco went to the nursery with Gianna and took pictures of her first bath and then met me in recovery and showed me the pics. He also had a surprise for me. He got me a necklace with Gianna's birthstone. He joked that he was really glad she held out until November! It was so sweet. He thanked me for Gianna and it was a moment I won't forget.

I didn't get to see Gianna again for almost eight hours. She went to the nursery and her glucose levels were low so we gave them permission to give her formula. She had to pass four glucose tests before she could come to our room. It was 4am on Tuesday, 11/6 when I got to hold her for the first time!

Marco made sure I was the first person to hold her. When the nurse brough her in and took her out of the bassinet she tried to hand her to Marco but he told her to give G to me. Daddy was patiently waiting to hold her. I love this picture! She will be a daddy's girl for sure!

Grandma bought Gianna her first baby doll. She was awake and so alert. She kept staring at the doll.
We were in the hospital for four days. Our nurses were great but we were stir crazy by the end of it and ready to go home!

My going home outfit and special blanket

I was so excited to go home but I ended up getting sick right before we left. I had been pumped with so much fluid during my labor and the c-section and between that and taking some pain meds on an empty stomach, I was a bloated light-headed mess. Both of our moms met us at home to help us get settled. They brought us dinner, too.

Now the real fun begins!

Week 41: Overdue and Contractions

My contractions started on Friday night and were pretty consistent at five minutes apart and lasting for more than a minute each. They weren't very painful so at midnight I decided I was going to try and get some sleep. By 1:30am they woke me up and continued over night. They got more intense but spread out more. I woke up around 7:30am on Saturday (11/3) and was graced by the bloody show. It's gross, don't Google it.

We made friends with the nurse who taught our childbirth class and I texted her about my progress. She said I could always go in and have them check me for progress. By 11am they were 6-7 minutes apart and some were more intense than others. She did warn me that if my water broke that it would be like Niagra Falls....she even included the umbrella emoticon. :) I knew I wasn't in active labor but I was pretty sure Gianna would be making her appearance by Monday.

As Saturday went on they got further and further apart. How incredibly frustrating.  I went over to Billy's house for dinner and we went for a walk. At this point I am always sure there is a towel in my car or something for me to sit on just in case. Billy thought this was hilarious and took this pic of me and texted it to his friends.  It's ok- you can laugh. It is pretty funny. :)

By Saturday night my contractions were not regular at all so I stopped timing them. It's like they just totally disappeared. I went to bed Saturday night and woke up my normal 3-4 times to pee and only had a contaction wake me up once. Oh, well. I took it in stride. Gianna will be here when she's ready.

Then I woke up Sunday 11/4 and that day was a bitch. I'd had it and it just kind of all came out. I made it through a day of false labor and really felt like she was going to be here this weekend. I was in a bad mood most of the day and just completely frustrated. I can't get up off the couch without assistance. I can't sit in the car for more than a 10-15 car ride before I want to jump out. I can't make it up the stairs without stopping to catch my breath three times. I can't sit. I can't lay. I have three times the amount of fluid I should at this point in pregnancy and I seriously may just have to drain it myself at this point.

I think my hormones are fluctuating too because I seriously cried at the drop of a hat that day. I wasn't like that the whole pregnancy. If anything, I was surprised that I didn't have much of that at all. Marco and I went to brunch at Marche Bacchus in Desert Shores and sat by the lake. It was relaxing even though I was so uncomfortable. Then we stopped and picked up some pastries and went to my moms for a bit. We sat by the pool and hung out and my mood got better.

That evening Nannina came over before heading back to California. She was in town hoping to be here for Gianna's birth. When she left she had a little chat with my tummy and let G know that she could come out at any time. If anything changed we were to let her know and she'd stay in town. That was all we needed because I went into labor about an hour after she left!

Week 40: No Baby Yet

Saturday, 10/27/12: 39 weeks, 1day
I slept good last night. Marco made brunch and we hung out and watched college football most of the day. In the late morning (after complaining via text that there was no progress) I went to pee and lost (at least part of) my mucous plug. I was pretty excited- at least something was happening, but we know that it's not a sign that labor is imminent. It could be a day or a week, or two weeks. Hopefully now, I will start dilating. My doctor has tried to strip my membranes for the last two weeks but my cervix was still posterior so he couldn't reach them. Maybe this will start some movement in there.

Sunday, 10/28/12: 39 weeks, 2 days
Today is our goddaughter, Stella's, first birthday!!! I can't believe it's been a year since she was born. We can't wait till the Adkins' come down and visit soon. Sabrina was really hoping our girls would share a birthday but that wasn't in the cards.

It was a quiet football day at our house. It ended with Sunday dinner at moms which is one of my favorite traditions. I lost more of my mucous plug and I'm still pregnant.

Monday, 10/29/12: 39 weeks, 3 days
High Risk appointment at 8:30am. I still make the appointments early because Marco has to go to work after. Fluid level was 29cm.  It keeps going up which is really frustrating. The nurse kept saying she felt so bad for me and she couldn't imagine how uncomfortable I was. I realized that I don't know anything else. This is my first pregnancy so I have nothing to compare it to. All I know is that I can't move and it's going to be like Free Willy when my water breaks!

Tuesday, 10/30/12: 39 weeks, 4 days
Superstorm Sandy hit last night. I was able to hear from my cousins and they were all safe. I always worry when things happen in New York and its so hard to just sit and watch it on TV. Jillian and my Petitto family are all ok. I got a text at 5:20am from a friend who took a picture of my house in Massapequa with trees down in the yard. It's funny, but it's still my house! I have to drive past my house every time I go back. I get offended when they change something. Lol. It seems others share the same sentiment and I love that!

Photo: I grew up on Long Island in Massapequa and a piece of my heart will always be there. Here's a pic our our house after the storm. Glad my family and friends there are safe but there's so much destruction. Thanks for sending it Joe.

Not much happening on the baby front. I lost more plug today, which is gross. I feel like this is my first real day of leave. No 8am doctor appointment. I slept in till 9am. Not one thing I have to do on my calendar. I vacuumed, dusted and did some laundry. Then I went to Kohls and Babies R Us.

Marco is feeling a little under the weather and is taking Zicam to try and fight it. We made it a soup night and caught up on the DVR. No signs of labor.

Wednesday, 10/31/12: 39 weeks, 5 days Halloween!

Observation: Daytime tv sucks with the exception of The Price Is Right. I made an appointment to meet another pediatrician and had that at 1pm. It was super cute and the whole office was dressed up for Halloween. The doctor was Daffy Duck and I bet the kids loved it.

We didn't carve pumpkins this year because I couldn't sit in one spot for that long. Our other Halloween tradition is to get In N Out for dinner and take turns answering the door for the trick or treaters. Marco will be on candy patrol this year. :) Billy and Frankie came over and they took turns manning the door. We are missing Bella a lot this week. I loved dressing her up in her ballerina costume even though she hated it.

Next year we will have our own little one to dress up. I bought a Halloween outfit for Gianna in case she came early but in true Tufano (and AGD) style- she's gonna be late.

Thursday, 11/1/12: 39 weeks, 6 days
We had our High Risk appointment at 8:30am. My fluid was at 22cm. Gianna was practicing her breathing and was monitored. She's doing great. I could see my contractions on the monitor. They're still Braxton Hicks but it was neat to see then on the monitor- probably because they aren't painful yet.

I slept like crap the night before and was super tired when u got home from the appointment. I pretty much lounged around on the yoga ball and then took a nap. Usually on Thursdays, I have dinner with my mom and Billy while Marco plays basketball. I was so tired I didn't even want to go out. We ordered a pizza and they came over instead.

Friday, 11/2/12: 40 weeks DUE DATE!
We had our 40 week OB appointment at 8:45am. The doctor checked me and I was 1cm dilated. My cervix shifted so he was able to strip my membranes. OMG, that's no joke. It hurt- a lot. Afterwards, I was 2cm and now 80% effaced. Last week I was 50% so that's a good jump. She is still at a -2 station and bobbing for apples in there with all the fluid.

After my appointment I felt crampy and like she was lower. I met Billy for lunch and the 25 minute drive each way was not fun. After lunch I thought it would be good to walk around a bit so I went to Homegoods but I didn't last long. You know something's not right when I leave that store early. :) I just needed to go home and lay down for a bit to take the pressure off my pelvis. My contractions have been a bit stronger and kind of feel like cramps.

On Friday night I had consistent contractions every five minutes for about 3 hours. By midnight I figured it was a good idea to go to sleep. Only time would tell if I was in false labor or what.

I slept until about 1:30am then the contractions woke me up. They slowed down in frequency but picked up in intensity. We didn't go to the hospital because they weren't painful enough. I think she'll be here this weekend!

39 Weeks- On Maternity Leave!

This week started off pretty rough. I was quite unhappy on Sunday and my back had been killing me for most of the day.  I had lunch with my friend, Gina, and her little girl, Emma (which was so much fun!) then headed to Wal Mart to run a few "quick" errands. Nothing is really ever quick any more and I'm moving quite slowly these days. It took twice as long as I anticipated. That evening I was super uncomfortable and the middle of my back hurt constantly. I didn't think it was back labor because it wasn't low. We left my mom's house early and headed home. We have a back massager thingy so I used that a few times and it helped loosen things up. That night though, I was up nearly every hour and between peeing and not being able to get comfortable it was rough and I didn't fall asleep for real until about 4:45am.

High risk fluid check: Monday, 26cm. We also found out on Monday that the reason I was so uncomfortable was that Gianna was facing out towards my belly button, not in towards my spine. They call this "sunny side up" and it SUCKS! I really hope she turns before I go into labor because I can not even imagine what it will feel like if I am having contractions while her spine is against mine. Back labor is not in my birth plan. I will take a c-section instead please. :(

Another thing that kept me up that night, was that my dear friend, Jona, went into labor!!!! We are due only one day apart and her water broke on 10/21. I got lots of text updates about how labor was going and hubby Logan sent me updates the next day, too. Baby Olivia arrived on Monday, October 22nd- 8lbs, 3oz! I'm so proud of my friend and I know she is going to be the best mom!

Wednesday was my last day of work, thank goodness. My worst nightmare of my water breaking on campus and Niagra Falls flooding my office have been avoided. My co-workers are awesome and decorated my office with fun decorations! If I wasn't so uncomfortable, I would want to stay longer. The decorations will probably still be up when I come back from leave in March! :)

Thursday was my first day of maternity leave and we had an 8:30 appointment at High Risk. My fluid was the highest it has been at 28cm. This condition has a name even though I just call it "too much fluid". It's called Polyhydramnios. The nurse asked if my doctor had planned to induce me but we didn't have our OB appointment until the next day so I didn't know. Afterwards, I went and got my nails done, then had lunch with my friend, Marissa. it was a nice relaxing day but I was exhausted by 3pm. :) I went home and did nothing for the rest of the day. It was great!

We had our OB visit the next day and my doctor measured my belly. Even though I am *only* 39 weeks my belly measures 44 weeks. There is so much extra amniotic fluid that my belly looks like I'm 11 months pregnant. And I'll tell you what- I feel like it. There were no internal changes from last week either. So she's comfy in there with no immediate plans to vacate the premises. My next OB appointment is Nov. 2nd (my due date) and we'll talk about inducing then if she doesn't come this week.

While I have really enjoyed being pregnant, these last two weeks have been pretty rough. I can't begin to explain how uncomfortable I am with all this extra fluid. I wonder what it would be like if I didn't have it. I can't imagine being pregnant for two more weeks! Sometimes I just need to take it one hour at a time. I can't really yawn, sneeze or cough because my lungs don't have the room to expand anymore. If I have a harder time breathing they'll look to do an amnio to drain some of the fluid. I'd rather just be induced at this point. Here is a pic of my belly in relation to the steering wheel. Not much room left there!

Here's a funny story though- I told my doctor that I started sitting on a towel in the car in case my water broke. He smiled, then suggested I have three towels in there instead. Marco thought maybe a Sham Wow would do the trick. My doctor suggested we have a canoe handy just in case. Lol! It was a pretty hilarious exchange. In all seriousness, if my water does break I have to be careful that the cord doesn't come out first. She's not engaged at a zero station and because of all the fluid she is just bobbing around in there so if it gushes the cord may "go out with the bath water" which can be life threatening for Gianna. It's called Cord Prolapse.

It took being 39 weeks along and me actually measuring ahead at 44 weeks for my first stretch marks. I was doing so well! If you have seen this gigundo belly in person you'll know this is no small feat. :) I think if I didn't have all this extra fluid causing me to carry a 12 pound baby (sarcasm- hopefully...) I would have been home free! Oh well. Badge of honor. :)

How far along? 39 weeks
Maternity clothes? Mostly
Stretch marks? Some above my belly button.
Sleep: Not awful.
Best moment of the week: Going on maternity leave!!!!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Braxton Hicks.
Gender: Girl!
Symptoms: Major back pain this week.
Belly button in or out: Still flat- not a popper. One of my hernia's likes to stick out a little sometimes- you can kind of see it in this pic. It depends on the position of the baby.

Labor Signs: Still 50% effaced at a -2 station. No dilation.
Happy or moody most of the time: Happy
Looking forward to: Holding my baby! (not the labor)
